Essex lost opener Nick Browne in the first over of their second innings, before captain Tom Westley and Paul Walter saw through the remainder of the proceedings without further damage. The match eventually turned out to be a high-scoring draw.

Hosts Lancashire overcame their 125-run first-innings disadvantage to script a remarkable final day win at Manchester. To start off, the Steven Croft-led side had set an improbable 312-run target for Kent.
In response, the visitors’ final innings lasted just 52.2 overs as they fell 184 runs short of their task. Lancashire’s Tom Bailey claimed a match-winning five-fer to finish with a match haul of 11 wickets. India’s enigma machine Washington Sundar also played his part in the win by pocketing three wickets in his economical 16 overs.

The Warwickshire batters faced just an additional 11.5 overs on Day 4 to add another 40 runs all while losing their remaining six wickets. Surrey’s Kemar Roach turned out to be the destructor-in-chief with his 5-72 off 26 second-innings overs.
