Shai Hope becomes the most proficient ODI batter since 2021 after ton against India

West Indies opener Shai Hope documented an imperial 115 against India in the second ODI. The match also marked the 100th ODI of his career, and he became only the 10th cricketer in the world to chart a ton in the milestone game.

The latest knock by the dynamic opening batsman also took him past Ireland’s Paul Stirling in terms of most ODI runs scored since 2021. Hope now leads an elite pack, comprising of the likes of Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and Ireland’s batting maverick Harry Tector.

Apart from his ongoing exploits against the ‘Men in Blue’, the cricketer also piled up 152 runs in a three-match ODI series in Pakistan last month. The 28-year-old has played 17 innings in 2022, compiling 594 runs with one half-century and three tons.

The right-handed batsman scored 115 off 135 balls and guided his side to a daunting total of 311-6 from their 50 overs. However, the West Indies bowlers failed to defend the total courtesy of a rearguard fightback launched by Indian all-rounder Axar Patel.

The Shikhar Dhawan-led side won the thriller by two wickets in the final over and sealed the series with a game to spare. The two teams will now clash in the third ODI on July 27 at the Queen’s Park Oval.
