There was no animosity as such: Sarfaraz comments on his relation with Ponting

Sarfaraz Khan has been tearing it apart in the domestic circuit as of late and emerged as the Player of the Series with the most number of runs in the recently concluded Ranji Trophy 2022. 

Taking to OneCricket recently, the batter talked about various incidences from the Indian Premier League to Caribbean legend Chris Gayle.

Speaking about his experience at Delhi Capitals (DC), the Player had nothing but praises for head coach Ricky Ponting. He spoke about how the legend handled the team. 

“He loves to keep it simple when it comes to the squad and likes to keep the unity intact in the squad. Unfortunately, we couldn’t qualify, but it was fun alongside Ricky Sir. We’ll be having a DC fitness camp in the next twenty days, so that will be a nice moment to reunite with everyone,”

During the interview, the Player also opened up on the incident against KKR where the Player was kept down the batting order and did not get a chance to feature while his side saw wickets fall one after another.

“There was no animosity as such, and it was all about what was important at the team in that match. Ricky Sir wanted to maintain that left and right combination, and that is why he sent the other players ahead of me; I don’t think there was any more reason behind that decision,”

Talking about heated incidents, the Player also opened up the no-ball controversy against Rajasthan Royals (RR), where skipper Rishabh Pant was seen signalling the players to return to the dugout after the umpire refused to adjourn an apparent waist-high delivery as a no-ball.

“Things like that happened during the heat of the moment. All of us are humans and lose our calm sometimes. It’s the umpires that have the final call when it comes to the decisions, and we have to respect it. So like I said, those things happen in the heat of the moment, and we have to learn from it and move ahead,” Sarfaraz concluded during the first half of the interview.
