  • Rayudu Returns As Player Yusuf Pathan Appointed As A Mentor For Baroda

Rayudu returns as player, Yusuf Pathan appointed as a mentor for Baroda

The Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) secured the services of experienced batter Ambati Rayudu for the upcoming domestic season. In addition, they have named the former India all-rounder Yusuf Pathan as a mentor.

Earlier, Rayudu received a no-objection certificate from the Andhra Cricket Association. The 36-year-old last featured for Andhra in the 2021/22 edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy and amassed 143 runs in five innings. He has predominantly been active in white-ball cricket while last featuring in whites in 2017.

In the past, Rayudu had a two-year stint with the Baroda team from 2012 to 2014.

BCA have appointed Pathan for a one-year stint with the state team. The 39-year-old will oversee men's and women's teams of different age groups. Furthermore, he will be involved in the scouting of players as well.

Throughout his domestic career, Pathan has been a prolific player for the Baroda state team.

"Baroda is a small unit, and the idea is to have someone of Yusuf's stature to help nurture the talent coming through," Hattangadi said. "We've seen players don't lack ability, it's their confidence level and mental make-up that needs tweaks. We thought Yusuf would be a perfect fit."

Baroda hopeful of Hooda's return

BCA are also trying to bring Deepak Hooda back into the squad, who had left due to a rift with captain Krunal Pandya. However, both the players played together for Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2022 and looked comfortable with each other.

Moreover, Hooda has been impressive for the Indian team in white-ball cricket and can be a crucial player for Baroda.

"While we are hopeful of Hooda's return, we can't say for sure, because from a cricketing perspective, it was Rajasthan who opened their doors for him when he needed a team. From our side, we're making an effort. We'll have to wait for a final call."
