TNPL 2022 | Jagadeesan & Sai Kishore help CSG record A five-Wicket Win Over LKK

Riding on Narayan Jagadeesan's whirlwind knock of 51-ball 75 and R Sai Kishore's all-round brilliance, Chepauk Super Gillies hunted down the target of 171 runs with relative ease to register a comprehensive five-wicket victory over Lyca Kovai Kings on Tuesday at Coimbatore.

The spin maestro Sai Kishore, who scalped two wickets in the first inning, played a sensational knock of 48 runs off just 33 deliveries to stitch a match-winning 92-run stand with N Jagadeesan and lay the foundation of the chase.

Apart from this duo, none of the CSG batters could buy any momentum in the middle.

However, Harish Kumar smacked a boundary only on the second ball he faced to take his side past the finish line. Rajagopal Satish remained unbeaten at the other end with 11 runs off five deliveries.

For the Lyca Kovai Kings, Abhishek Tanwar shined with the ball, bagging a three-wicket haul. He was well followed by Balu Surya and S Ajith Ram, who got one wicket each.

Earlier, Lyca Kovai Kings, after being sent to bat first, got a sedate start as opener A Venkataraman was removed for just six runs.

Then, J Suresh Kumar (22-ball-32) and Sai Sudharsan (25-ball-27) steadied the ship by stitching a 61-run stand for the second wicket.

Shijit Chandran also played a quick cameo of 17 runs off 13 deliveries before skipper Shahrukh Khan and Abhishek Tanwar took the matter into their hands.

The duo went bonkers with the bat and took the Super Gillies' bowlers to the cleaners by putting up a phenomenal 59-run stand off just 26 balls for the 7th wicket.

Shahrukh Khan belted a blistering unbeaten half-century – his first in the season – off just 28 balls.

On the other hand, Abhishek Tanwar, in his late blitz, whacked a 12-ball-28 with two fours and as many sixes to take the side to a decent total of 170 runs on the slow track.

For CSG, Sai Kishore picked two wickets while the other bowlers, except Sandeep Warrier, claimed one wicket each.

It was the second consecutive win for the defending champions, who had a dreadful start to their tournament campaign. Meanwhile, Lyca Kovai Kings slumped to their third defeat of the season.

Following this win, Chepauk Super Gillies made a massive jump to occupy the third spot in the TNPL standings. On the other hand, after this defeat, Kovai Kings slipped to the fourth position in the points tally.
