Adam Lyth signs a three-year extension with Yorkshire

Yorkshire County Cricket Club have extended their contract with Adam Lyth by three years. 

Lyth has been with Yorkshire for a few years and was also their best batsman in the successful Championship challenge in 2014. The 34-year-old hails from Yorkshire and is happy to have received a three-year extension from his home club.

 “I’m delighted to sign a contract extension with Yorkshire and am excited to be part of this team for at least the next three years. Yorkshire is my home Club and I take great pride in representing them.

“With such a talented squad I believe we can really challenge for silverware over the next few years and would love to secure another trophy in front of our fantastic supporters,” the southpaw was quoted as saying by the official Yorkshire website.

Lyth will remain with the club until at least October 2025 and will be looking to score many more runs. So far, the batsman has played 202 first-class games and has a batting average of 37.50. In the T20 format, Lyth has 3662 runs at an average of 25.97 and an impressive strike rate of more than 147.

The batsman has also played seven Tests for England, with 265 runs at an average of 20.38.

Yorkshire CCC’s Interim Managing Director of Cricket Darren Gough said heaped praise on Lyth while recalling how he’s grown into a well-established cricketer.

“It’s fantastic to have Adam Lyth contracted with us for another three years. He was a young player at Yorkshire when I was in the final few years of my playing career and I remember thinking what a talent he was back then. It’s fair to say he’s gone on to have a marvellous career so far, proving himself to be one of the best multi-format batters in the country and his performances this year have shown that he’s still got a lot of runs left in the tank.”

Yorkshire will play Birmingham tonight in the ongoing T20 Vitality Blast.
