WI vs BAN | Brathwaite lauds Mayers and Roach as Windies whitewash the visitors

West Indies Test captain Kraigg Brathwaite has labelled Kyle Mayers as a match-winner after his team's thumping win over Bangladesh in the second Test to win the series 2-0.

West Indies on Monday (June 27) sealed the two-match Test series at home 2-0 with a comprehensive 10-wicket triumph on the fourth day of the second Test against Bangladesh at St Lucia.

The Kraigg Brathwaite-led side got a 1-0 lead in the series when they dismantled the visiting team in the first game to secure a seven-wicket win on the fourth day.

Reflecting on the last Test and the whole series, the West Indies Test skipper said his team's execution was "top-notch" and wants his side to keep improving.

"I think the confidence we got from winning the first game was nice. The planning and execution in this match was top-notch, as you can see from how (Kyle) Mayers played. There is always room for improvement. That's one thing that we always want to keep doing, batting 100 overs whenever we bat. One should be a little decisive in this format," Kraigg Brathwaite said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

All-rounder Kyle Mayers, who scored his second Test ton against the Bangla tigers in the last Test, was awarded player of the match and player of the series for finishing with the most runs – 153 in two innings – and snapping six wickets at an average of 16.

Roach, who became the sixth bowler from West Indies to accomplish 250 Test scalps, bagged ten wickets in the two matches, including his 10th five-wicket haul at an average of 18.50 and a strike rate of 36.50.

"Kemar (Roach) is a legend of the game. His attitude off the field is amazing. I am glad for his success. (Kyle) Mayers is special. He is a match-winner. He is a special talent. He just needs to realise his talent and believe in himself. Australia at home will be a challenging team. It is all about attitude and being tough," Brathwaite added.

Speaking about his match-winning efforts throughout the series, Mayers stated that he approached his cricket with a positive mindset and will take that mindset to the other formats as well.

"We were in a bit in trouble when I came into bat and wanted to wrest back the initiative. I have made three centuries in all formats. Of course, the 200 was good but this century felt special as I wanted to do well in this series. I always want to make the batter play when I bowl. I will look to take the same positive mindset to the other formats as well," said Kyle Mayers.

With the 2-0 series win, they accumulated 24 points and a 50% win percentage in the current World Test Championship (WTC) cycle 2021-23 with four wins, three losses and a couple of draws.

On the other hand, Bangladesh are languishing at the bottom of the points table with just a solitary victory, one draw, and eight defeats after playing ten games in this cycle.
