IPL 2022 | Lockie Ferguson breaks Umran Malik's record of fastest delivery, clocks 157.3 kmph

Gujarat Titans speed gun Lockie Ferguson bowled the fastest delivery of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 when he clocked 157.3 kmph in the fifth over against Rajasthan Royals in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

It was the final ball of the 5th over, which was a fine yorker outside off. Ferguson has gone past the 150 kmph mark on several occasions this year. Earlier, the record was held by Sunrisers Hyderabad pace sensation Umran Malik, who clocked 157 kmph during their match against Delhi Capitals at the Brabourne Stadium.

The Jammu and Kashmir pacer has won 14 consecutive fastest deliveries of the match award in IPL 2022, but the New Zealand pacer eventually shattered his dream of winning the title of the fastest bowler in the tournament in the final fixture of the tournament.

Former Australian cricketer Shaun Tait holds the record for bowling the fastest delivery in IPL history, clocking 157.7 kmph during an IPL match in the past. Meanwhile, Umran Malik equalled the speed of former Indian pacer Javagal Srinath, who holds the record for bowling the fastest delivery by an Indian bowler at the international level.

The Fastest Five Deliveries In IPL History:

  1. Shaun Tait (Rajasthan Royals, 157.71 kmph)

  2. Lockie Ferguson (Gujarat Titans, 157.3 kmph)

  3. Umran Malik (Sunrisers Hyderabad, 157 kmph)

  4. Anrich Nortje (Delhi Capitals, 156.22 kmph)

  5. Umran Malik (Sunrisers Hyderabad, 156 kmph)

Ferguson has been impressive in the first half of the tournament but looked off-colour in the second half, leaking away too many runs and remaining wicketless on a few occasions. At the time of the writing, the Gujarat pacer has 12 wickets to his name in 13 matches.

Along with Umran and Lockie, the likes of Dushmantha Chameera, Umesh Yadav, Mohsin Khan and Kuldeep Sen have made an impact with their sheer pace and lethal bowling skills.
