The Delhi Bulls smashed the Team Abu Dhabi to seal a place in the final of the ongoing edition of the Abu Dhabi T10 League. They will meet the Deccan Gladiators in the final scheduled to be played tonight at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Defending a target of 110 runs, the Bulls were on top of their game and bowled Abu Dhabi for a mere 60 runs. Dominic Drakes was the pick of the bowlers and picked up four wickets including the big wickets of Liam Livingstone and Phil Salt. He was adjudged player of the match for his four-wicket haul.
Earlier, Abu Dhabi won the toss and invited the Bulls to bat first. They were off to a horrible start with the highest run-getter of the tournament—Rahmanullah Gurbaz getting out for a duck. However, useful contributions from the middle-order comprising of Romario Shepherd and Sherfane Rutherford helped them go past the 100-run mark.
New Zealand spinner Ajaz Patel registered his name in the history books of cricket by becoming only the third bowler to take all 10 wickets in an innings of a Test match after Jim Laker and Anil Kumble. He achieved the feat on the second day of the second Test against India in Mumbai. He dismissed Mohammed Siraj as India’s last wicket and received grand applause from all spectators at the Wankhede Stadium and also the Indian dressing room. In the process, he also registered the best bowling figure for a New Zealand bowler beating the previous record of Sir Richard Hadlee, who had taken nine wickets for 52 runs. New Zealand spinner Ajaz Patel registered his name in the history books of Cricket by becoming only the third bowler to take all 10 wickets in an innings of a Test match after England spinner Jim Laker and former Indian captain Anil Kumble. He achieved the feat on the second day of the second Test against India in Mumbai. He dismissed Mohammed Siraj as India’s last wicket and received grand applause from all spectators at the Wankhede Stadium and also the Indian dressing room. In the process, he also registered the best bowling figure for a New Zealand bowler betaing the previous record of Sir Richard Hadlee, who had taken nine wickets for 52 runs. He was born in Mumbai before his parent moved out of the city and country to New Zealand. He had talked about the nostalgia and emotions he felt while coming back to Mumbai which is called “maximum city” and he lived that spirit by achieving the maximum success for a bowler. None of his 10 wickets came through a spell of good luck or on bad deliveries as he was the most threatening bowler among all Kiwi bowlers and a picture-perfect scorecard for him was truly deserving for his marathon efforts where he bowled 47 overs.
Team Abu Dhabi marched ahead in the T10 League after beating Bangla Tigers by 7 wickets in the Eliminator match. Chasing a target of 102, Abu Dhabi went over the line with more than three overs to spare. Openers Paul Stirling and Philip Salt gave a perfect start as the two put 81 runs for the first wicket on the board before Stirling was sent back in the hut for a well compiled 57 off 20 deliveries. Stirling struck five maximums and as many fours during the course. Salt on the other hand chipped in with 24 off 12. Team Abu Dhabi lost some wickets at the end but that didn’t really create much of a problem for them as they went over the line quite comfortably. Earlier, the Bangla Tigers had a dismal start to the proceedings as they were reduced to 28/4 but Zazai’s 66 off 37 helped them put 101/4 in 10 overs. But his knock eventually went in vain as the side lost the game. Team Abu Dhabi will now lock horns with Delhi Bulls and the winner of this game will go into the final where they will meet Deccan Gladiators.
