India batter Yashasvi Jaiswal broke through an elusive list in only his debut Test match. The India prodigy became the 13th opening batter from his country to score a half-century in his maiden Test cricket appearance.
In the 33rd over of India's first innings, Jaiswal pulled an Alzarri Joseph delivery for a four as he relished the feeling that only 12 other Indian batters had enjoyed.
As the 21-year-old achieved the two-figure milestone, he now appears in an elite list that includes names of:
- Dilawar Hussain (59 runs)
- Vinoo Mankad (63 runs)
- KC Ibrahim (85 runs)
- Sunil Gavaskar (65, 67* runs)
- Sudhir Naik (77 runs)
- Pranav Roy (60* runs)
- Arun Lal (63 runs)
- Lalchand Rajput (61 runs)
- Devang Gandhi (75 runs)
- Shikhar Dhawan (187 runs)
- Prithvi Shaw (134 runs)
- Mayank Agarwal (76 runs)
- Yashasvi Jaiswal (62* runs)
After bowling out the Windies at a total of 150 runs, India continue to enjoy a smooth sailing with both their openers having gone past fifties, individually. The visitors are at 146/0 currently with Rohit Sharma and Jaiswal batting on 68 and 62 runs respectively.
