World Cup 2023 | Hasan Ali Bags Special Landmark Against New Zealand In Bengaluru

Pakistan seamer Hasan Ali on Saturday (November 4) achieved a special landmark in his top-level career, bagging his 100th One-Day International scalp for the 1992 champions in the ICC World Cup 2023 clash versus New Zealand.

As he got BlackCaps' formidable opener Devon Conway out nicking a short ball to Pakistan wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan in Bangalore, Hasan recorded his 100th ODI breakthrough for the Asian Giants in his 66th outing in the 50-over format since making his debut in 2016.

In a topsy-turvy career, where he required an injury to incumbent quick Naseem Shah to be recalled for this World Cup, Hasan reached the three-figure milestone with a trademark skidder that Conway didn't expect to arrive as quickly as it did on his attempted pull shot.

The solid left-hander, who had raced along to an unbeaten 35 off 38 deliveries in a terrific opening stand of 68 with young Rachin Ravindra, could only manage to under-edge the delivery from Hasan in the safe hands of the experienced Rizwan.

One couldn't be sure if Hasan immediately recognised the context behind the breakthrough or the magnitude of his achievement, but the pacer wore a look of reassurance and confidence when he sent the dangerous Conway back with Pakistan desperate for their first breakthrough.

The moment probably summed up the career of Pakistan's earnest and selfless backup seamer who hasn't always been given his due and even lost his place amidst the rise of the Shaheen-Naseem duo. In a flat-batting era, Hasan recorded his 100th ODI scalp at an average just shy of 31 while carrying an economy rate of 5.75.

Notably, Hasan also became the 22nd men's Pakistani bowler to have produced the milestone and the 15th pacer from the land of hospitality to record the special feat. Among contemporary Pakistan quicks, only Shaheen Afridi with 102 scalps is ahead of the 29-year-old darkhorse of the talented attack.
