The seventh fixture of the ongoing Women's T20 World Cup witnessed South Africa Women thrash their New Zealand counterparts by 65 runs. The Proteas opened their account in the points table with this emphatic win.

Tryon and De Klerk power South Africa to a fighting total

After deciding to bat first, South Africa Women got off to a disappointing start, losing Tazmin Brits and Marizanne Kapp cheaply inside three overs.

Although Sune Luus and Laura Wolvaardt tried to resurrect the innings, their efforts suffered a massive blow, with both getting dismissed within 11 deliveries.

However, the experienced Chloe Tryon stepped in, scoring a brilliant 34-ball 40 under immense pressure. Along with Nadine de Klerk, Tryon exhibited nerves of steel to propel her side to a respectable 132 in 20 overs.

For New Zealand, Eden Carson and Lea Tahuhu scalped two wickets each, while Halyley Jensen claimed one wicket.

Chasing 133, New Zealand were off to a disastrous start, as Nonkululeko Mlaba removed Bernadine Bezuidenhout and Suzie Bates for duck. None of the New Zealand batters seemed comfortable in the middle, as they kept walking back to the dugout one after the other.

The White Ferns were so miserable with the bat that only Amelia Kerr, Sophie Devine and Jess Kerr managed to breach the two-figure mark. As a result, they were bowled out for a paltry 67 in 18.1 overs.

While Mlaba recorded a sensational three-for, Marizanne Kapp and Chloe Tryon claimed two wickets apiece.

This was the second time New Zealand Women were bundled out for a sub-100 total.
