In a significant development, South Africa Women have won the toss and opted to bowl in their T20 World Cup opener against West Indies Women at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

During the toss, South Africa skipper Laura Wolvaardt emphasised capitalising on the freshness of the surface. She also highlighted the venue's tendency to favour the chasing sides, saying,

"We are going to bowl first. Obviously, it is a fresh surface and the record says chase here. We have to take it one game at a time. Hopefully, we get off to a good start today. We have got an extra spinner in the line-up. We feel it will be a little bit slower. Have to see how the pitch behaves."

Hayley Matthews Confident Of West Indies' Impressive Outing Vs South Africa

On the other hand, West Indies Women's captain Hayley Matthews revealed that they would've bowled first as well. Having said that, she showed confidence in her side's ability to give the Proteas Women a run for their money.

She also shed light on Deandra Dottin, who reversed T20I retirement and got a place in West Indies' World Cup squad.

"We probably had a bowl first too but at the same time looks like a pretty good wicket, so hopefully we can get a flying start with the bat. Yeah we have got 2-3 spinners and pacers in our side and also we have batting depth so we have our bowling department covered. (On Deandra Dottin) I think she is really excited to be back in the side, she has been enjoying training and enjoying being back in the group. Yeah its definitely hot like out there in West Indies but we will be fine in terms of conditions."
