Women's Ashes will kickstart from Thursday (Twitter)
After a thrilling men's encounter at Edgbaston, the action shifts to Trent Bridge on Thursday, where England and Australia's Women's teams will clash in the one-off Test. This only Test will kick off the highly-anticipated Women's Ashes 2023, which also sees a white-ball leg, unlike the men's tour.
In 51 Tests, hosts England have won nine, Australia have won 12, while 30 matches have ended in a draw. This will also be the first time that a women's Test will be played in a five-day format.
Team Preview
England
England will be captained by Heather Knight, who came perilously close to beating Australia, the last time these two arch-rivals met. Since then England have played only one Test which ended in a draw, despite England's dominance.
The hosts will have a mix of experience and youth with players like Tammy Beaumont, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Sophia Dunkley, and Sophie Ecclestone being joined by Alice Capsey, Izzy Wong, and Lauren Bell.
For several players, it will be about how they handle their nerves while for others it will be about bettering their older selves.
Australia
Australia will be hampered by the loss of regular skipper Meg Lanning; however, Alyssa Healy is no less than a formidable opponent to face. With the retirement of Rachel Haynes, Phoebe Litchfield will look to make the opening slot her own,
Other than that, Australia's playing XI picks for itself, with the likes of Ellyse Perry, Beth Mooney, Jess Jonassen, and Ashleigh Gardner in the squad. Australia's batting did suffer a collapse in their warm-up against England A but were able to get the side out of trouble. The bowling will be a concern having given 550+ runs in the practice tie.
Australia will be eager to notch up their first win against England in their backyard after 2015.
