Team India excluded Sanju Samson from playing XI in the first ODI of their three-match series against West Indies in Bridgetown. The team management preferred Ishan Kishan and handed Bengal veteran Mukesh Kumar his debut cap in ODIs.

Samson was recalled into the 16-player squad for the ODI and T20I series owing to the injury-struck absence of regular wicketkeepers KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant. While fans of the cricketer considered his callback as an opportunity for his grooming for the 2023 World Cup later this year, his exclusion enraged a legion of his supporters on social media.

Fans lambast Rohit Sharma for Samson’s exclusion

Sanju Samson, who made his international debut back in July 2015, has been making sporadic appearances for Team India. The cricketer has played just 11 ODIs and 17 T20Is, with his previous outing being the home T20I against Sri Lanka in January this year. Moreover, Samson played his last ODI match back in November last year during an away series against New Zealand.

While the 28-year-old finally received an ODI callup at the expense of injury-struck KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant, he was still excluded from the playing XI as the team management opted for Ishan Kishan in the field instead.

As it turned out, fans of the Kerala-based batter were left enraged and expressed their displeasure over Indian captain Rohit Sharma and the team management. Several Twitter users took to the micro-blogging site. They criticised the management's decision, considering the series serves as a dress rehearsal for the all-important ODI World Cup later this year.

Here is a look at some of the fans reacting over Samson’s repeated exclusions from the national side:

In the meantime, West Indies were shot out for just 114 upon batting first. Debutant Mukesh Sharma earned a wicket while Kuldeep Yadav snared four wickets, while giving away just six runs.
