The first ODI between West Indies and India was expected to be a closer fight than what we saw in the Test series, but it is turning out to be another nightmare for the hosts as they have been bowled out for 114. Rohit Sharma won the toss earlier and elected to bowl first in a hope that his bowlers will do the job and they have lived up to the expectations of their skipper.

West Indies batters just could not show any application and kept playing careless shot which has put them on a brink of another humiliating defeat.  Mayers was the first to go when he attempted and audacious shot in the third over off the bowling off Hardik Pandya to hand an easy catch to Indian skipper. Mukesh Kumar and Shardul Thakur also took a wicket each and soon, Windies were reduced to 45-3.

Hetmyer then joined his skipper Shai Hope and both steadied the ship for a bit before the spin duo of Jadeja-Ashwin wreaked havoc. West Indies were 88-3 but Hetmyer tried a surprising reverse-sweep which led to his downfall and that triggered a collapse. Jadeja was the wicket-taker and he soon got two more wickets. Kuldeep then joined the act and notched up four wickets in just three overs to set a stage for an emphatic Indian win.

Shai Hope was the only Windies batter who showed some application and scored 43 runs but there was no support from the other end. This is the first instance of left-arm spinners picking seven wickets in an ODI for India. Also, this is the second lowest total for West Indies in ODIs.

Brief Score

West Indies - 114-10 (23 overs)

Shai Hope - 43(45), Alick Athanaze - 22 (18)

Kuldeep Yadav - 6/4, Ravindra Jadeja - 37/3

India need 115 to win!
