With the Windies batting failing to put up a fight against the Indian team, it was expected that the home team bowlers will trouble the Indian batters with their pace, but that was not the case.

Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal have looked compact right from the word go and the search for that elusive first wicket continues for West Indies as India finish the first session on 146, with Rohit batting at 68 and Jaiswal with a brisk 62 on Test debut.

Rohit, Jaiswal put West Indies on back-foot

It has been a tough few months for the Indian test batters, especially the openers. The runs have not flown on a regular basis, but that all changed with the new opening pair of Rohit Sharma and debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal.

India started Day 2 at 80 for no loss, with Jaiswal at 40 and Rohit unbeaten at 30. The openers started from where they left on Day 1 evening and made sure the Windies bowlers were pushed on the back-foot right from the very beginning.

It was a mixture of caution and aggression from the two openers as the Windies bowlers failed to bowl at right lines and lengths. Jaiswal brought up his maiden Test fifty with a boundary off Kemar Roach and the boundary floodgates opened, with Rohit joining the party soon.

The Indian skipper played some delightful strokes and once again showed his class as he too, notched up a classy fifty.

Jaiswal joins an elite list

Playing his debut Test match, Jaiswal looked well in control and was hardly unfazed by the occasion on offer. The southpaw smashed his maiden Test fifty and became the 13th Indian opener to have scored a fifty on Test match debut.

The other notable names include - Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Mayank Agarwal, and Sunil Gavaskar.

The 21-year-old looked compact against both pace and spin, and barring a few nervy moments against Rahkeem Cornwall, he was solid and has gone toe-to-toe with his skipper.

Brief Score
