In a significant development, Sunrisers Hyderabad have won the toss and elected to bat first in their tenth group-stage IPL 2024 match against Rajasthan Royals. 

As skipper Pat Cummins confirmed at toss, the Orange Army will be without Aiden Markram today, having replaced the batter with his national temmate Marco Jansen. 


Why Is Aiden Markram Not Playing vs RR?

As Cummins didn't disclose any injury concern, it seems that SRH have dropped Markram for this game, including a new ball specialist in Jansen. 

There might be two reasons behind the move. Firstly, Markram hasn't done anything significant with the bat in the IPL 2024, managing only 199 runs at a modest average of 28.43 and a strike rate of 130.92. 

While Heinrich Klaasen and Travis Head have come out with all guns blazing, Markram has been a sort of under-performer in the competition. 

More importantly, Jansen's inclusion also signifies that they highly trust their batting unit, which is why they might have included a new ball specialist to bolster their powerplay bowling. 

It gives them a golden opportunity to run through the Royals' top order, which is their primary strength. Nevertheless, Jansen could also be an asset with the bat as he can score handy runs coming lower down the order.
