In a significant development, Chennai Super Kings have won the toss and elected to bowl in Chennai Super Kings' 12th group-stage IPL 2024 encounter against Gujarat Titans at Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad.

The Super Kings have made one change to their squad, replacing Richard Gleeson with Rachin Ravindra at the top order.

They have also included pacer Simarjeet Singh in their playing XI, keeping veteran Indian batter Ajinkya Rahane among the impact subs.

Why has Ajinkya Rahane been removed from CSK's playing XI?

Considering CSK will bowl first, the defending champions have included Simarjeet Singh in their playing XI for his exceptional performance in the previous match against Punjab Kings.

Therefore, Rahane finds himself among the impact substitutes and could replace one of the bowlers (probably Simarjeet) during CSK's run-chase in the second innings.

Nevertheless, CSK still have a solid batting line-up, studded with dynamic players like Gaikwad, Ravindra, Shivam Dube and Daryl Mitchell. So, if they get off to a good start, Rahane might not come to bat during the second half.

The stylish Mumbaikar has been horribly out of touch, managing only 208 runs at an abysmal average of 20.80 and a strike rate of 123.08. He has been seriously inconsistent with the bat and it won't be surprising if he doesn't come out to bat tonight.
