In a shocking development, Mumbai Indians (MI) have dropped Will Jacks from their playing XI against Gujarat Titans on Saturday in Match 9 of IPL 2025, taking place at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. With Hardik Pandya back as captain, the five-time champions decided not to have the services of the destructive English all-rounder, who made headlines last year while representing Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

Why Will Jacks Is Not Playing Today?

After winning the toss, Mumbai opted to bowl first against Shubman Gill and his boys. Among many surprises, the line-up confirmed there won't be Jacks among the top-order batters, with Mumbai replacing him with mystery spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman.

Considering the fact that Mumbai already had Ryan Rickelton, Trent Boult and Mitchell Santner among overseas options, bringing in Mujeeb meant there was no room for Jacks to feature, as the IPL governing body only allows four foreigners at the same time. At the same time, Mumbai have the likes of Tilak Varma, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya already, hence they might feel there was no requirement for Jacks.
