The Semi-Final 2 of the Ranji Trophy Elite 2024/25 is not far away, where Vidarbha are all set to take on 42-time champions Mumbai at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur. This thrilling game will take place from 17th February 2025 till 21st February from 9:30 AM IST.
The Vidarbha side, led by Akshay Wadkar, finished at the top of Elite Group B with six wins from seven matches. They had 40 points and ended with one draw. They then played against Tamil Nadu in the Quarter-Final and won by a massive margin of 198 runs. Vidarbha batted first and posted 353 on the board courtesy of Karun Nair's 122.
In the next innings, Tamil Nadu were only able to get as far as 225, with Aditya Thakare getting a fifer to his name. In reply to this, Vidarbha again posted a decent score of 272, as Yash Rathod got 112. Whereas in the next innings, Tamil Nadu, chasing a mammoth target, were cleaned up for 202, handing their opponents a hassle-free victory.
On the other hand, the Mumbai side finished second on the table in Elite Group A, winning four games out of seven. The Ajinkya Rahane-captained side won the Quarter-final against Haryana comfortably by 152 runs. They batted first and posted 315 on the board courtesy of Shams Mulani's 91 and Tanush Kotian's 97.
In reply, Haryana were close enough with 301, which was then bettered by Mumbai's second innings score of 339 as skipper Rahane rose up to the occasion to post 108 after his name. In the final innings, Haryana succumbed to the pressure as they were knocked over for 201, making it straightforward for Mumbai to progress to the next stage. However, for this game, they will be without the services of their star batter Yashasvi Jaiswal who will be missing out due to an injury.
