Hardik Pandya, the Mumbai Indians captain made a baffling decision by not giving Jasprit Bumrah a single over in the power-play during the Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings at the iconic Wankhede Stadium.
Despite losing Rachin Ravindra early, the young CSK duo of Ayush Mhatre and Shaik Rasheed went berserk as they took down the likes of Deepak Chahar and Ashwini Kumar with ease. Mhatre, the CSK debutant in particular was severe on the two bowlers as they looked clueless.
Despite the hammering, Hardik Pandya didn't give a single over to Bumrah for damage control in the power-play. Hence, the question arises, when was the last time Bumrah didn't bowl in power-play?.
When was the last time Bumrah didn't bowl in power-play?
Interestingly, it was 4 years ago during the 2021 season when Bumrah didn't bowl a single over in the powerplay. Ironically, that match was played against the Super Kings. During that match, CSK were 4 for 24 inside the powerplay and Bumrah was brought into the attack during the 7th over.
This looked like a tactical blunder by Hardik as Mhatre was going all guns blazing but instead of giving the ball to their best bowler, Hardik kept on giving it to the other bowlers.
CSK struggling for runs
The wicket at the Wankhede is not allowing batters to free their arms and CSK batters are currently struggling for runs.
Mhatre gave a flying start but baring that, the others are simply struggling as at the time of writing, the Super Kings are 91/3 in 13 overs.
