Legend AB de Villiers made the world forget all about his unparalleled genius when he led South Africa Champions to a stupendous victory against India Champions in the WCL 2025. The former South African captain played a stunning unbeaten knock of 63 runs from just 30 balls and completely changed the course of the match.

After failing in the first match against the West Indies Champions, de Villiers saw his team in a tough spot again against India, the defending champions. However, he backed his instincts and pulled off a classic knock that sent fans into nostalgia.

Coming in to bat in the 9th over of the first inning after Jacques Rudolph’s dismissal, AB de Villiers was quick to find his rhythm. He smashed 4 huge sixes and 3 boundaries, putting the Indian bowlers under immense pressure. 

With every shot, he looked like the de Villiers of old, calm, fearless, and unstoppable. Before he took charge, South Africa got a decent start from Hashim Amla (22) and Rudolph (24). 

However, India fought back with wickets at regular intervals. But once AB got going, there was no looking back for the Proteas. He found good support from Morne van Wyk, who blasted an unbeaten 18 from just 5 balls at the end.

Together, they powered South Africa to a huge total of 206/6 in their 20 overs. In reply, India Champions never looked comfortable. Their top order collapsed early, and none of the batters could stand up to the challenge. 

After the floodlights went off, the match was called off, and the South Africa Champions were awarded an 88-run victory as per the DLS method.

Even after the match-defining knock, AB de Villiers left an impact in the field. He pulled off a relay catch at the boundary rope with Sarel Erwee to dismiss Yusuf Pathan and end India’s hopes.

With 2 wins in 2 games, the South Africa Champions are leading the points table, and the India Champions dropped to the bottom with a single point.
