WBBL 2022: All-round show helps Brisbane Heat beat Perth Scorchers by 33 runs

The Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) 2022 resumed after a one-day break as the Brisbane Heat took on defending champions Perth Scorchers at Lilac Hill Park in Match 26.

A spirited bowling effort, spearheaded by individual brilliances from Nicola Hancock and Amelia Kerr, handed the Heat a 33-run victory over the Scorchers. With this win, the Brisbane-based club moved to the number one spot in the WBBL 08 points table, while Perth remain in the fourth position. 

Asked to bat first, the Heat gained a solid start, thanks to Danielle Wyatt and Georgia Redmayne. 

Redmayne soon retired hurt for 28, as Grace Harris joined Wyatt in the middle to keep the flow of runs fluent.

Alana King provided the first breakthrough for the Scorchers, claiming Wyatt for 23. Harris ran herself out for 25. Marizanne Kapp picked Voll for 9. King claimed her second getting the better of Amelia Kerr.

Skipper Jess Jonassen stroked a quick 16-ball 22, while other batters collapsed like nine-pins. Their innings closed at 153 for 7, with Jonassen and Hancock unbeaten on 22 and 4, respectively.

Chasing 154, the Sophie Devine-captained side never got going. Devine and Beth Mooney lasted just 3 overs, as the Heat's opening bowlers made life difficult in the middle. 

Maddy Green stood her ground for the side as Hancock and Kerr wreaked havoc on their middle-order batting. The duo claimed five wickets between them to devoid any chance for the champions. Jonassen ran Green out for 58. Piepa Cleary (0*) and Lilly Mills (1*) were in the middle with the Scorchers making 120 runs in the quota of 20 overs.
