England's bold Bazball strategy backfired in the second innings of the fifth and final Test of the five-match series against India at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala.

Staring down the barrel after conceding a hefty first-innings lead of 259 runs, England's hopes for a strong comeback crumbled early, with the team finding themselves in hot waters at 88/3 after 16 overs.

The third wicket came in the form of Ollie Pope, whose attempt to inject some momentum into England's innings ended in disaster. Since his stellar knock of 196 in the series opener, Pope's form has been dismal, culminating in a questionable decision against the spin of Ravichandran Ashwin.

On the receiving end of a short-of-a-length delivery, Pope's ambitious sweep shot brought his downfall.

The ball took the top edge and sailed into the waiting hands of Yashasvi Jaiswal, who executed a sensational running catch at square leg. Pope's departure for 19 off 23 balls, laced with three boundaries, added salt to England's wounds.

At the time of writing this article, England were trailing by 167 runs, with all eyes on Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow.

While Root has been anchoring the innings with a composed 24 off 28 balls, Bairstow, playing his 100th Test, has taken the fight to the opposition, smashing 37 off 27 deliveries, including three fours and as many sixes.

The unfolding drama raises the question: Can England's 'Bazball' philosophy rescue them from the brink, or will it prove to be their downfall against a determined Indian attack? Only time will tell as this exciting final Test match continues to unfold.
