New Zealand clinched a commanding 46-run victory over Pakistan, largely owing to a sensational fielding effort from captain Kane Williamson. The game, which took place on Friday, saw Pakistan embarking on an ambitious chase of 226 runs.

Williamson's electrifying catch dismisses Azam Khan in NZ vs PAK 1st T20I

The crucial moment came in the 16th over, with Pakistan needing 68 runs from the final five overs. Azam Khan, known for his robust hitting, was at the crease alongside the well-set Babar Azam.

However, his stint was abruptly ended by New Zealand's Adam Milne, who delivered a cleverly disguised slower ball. Khan, attempting a powerful hit, ended up with a top edge, sending the ball soaring towards wide long-off.

It was then that Williamson demonstrated why he is considered one of the best fielders in the world. Displaying remarkable athleticism, he sprinted, dived, and completed a breathtaking catch, dismissing Khan for ten runs off nine balls.

This catch not only removed a key batsman but also shifted the game's momentum dramatically in New Zealand's favour.

Following Khan's dismissal, Pakistan's batting order crumbled. Shaheen Afridi fell shortly after, and Babar Azam, despite his fighting 57 off 35 balls, was sent back in the subsequent over.

In a rapid collapse, Pakistan lost three more wickets in the next ten balls, plummeting from 159/5 to an all-out 180. This marked a staggering 46-run victory for New Zealand, giving them a 1-0 lead in the series.

The teams will now preparing for the second T20I, scheduled for Sunday, January 14, in Hamilton, where Pakistan will seek to level the series and New Zealand will aim to build on their early momentum.
