Pakistan’s newly minted T20 captain Shaheen Afridi was on a roll as he dismantled New Zealand’s top order during the fourth T20I of the five-game series, and his latest victim was right-hander Will Young.

Pakistan squared off with New Zealand in the fourth T20I of the five-game series earlier today. The Kiwis, having lost skipper Kane Williamson to injury, stepped out to bowl first and did a commendable job by restricting the visitors to 158 runs. Mohammad Rizwan put up a brave fight with 90 runs off 63 balls. But the fight to secure the pride of the team was just getting started.

The bowling unit was put under pressure by the below-par total, but the skipper, Shaheen Shah Afridi, took it upon himself to guide his side to a flying start.

He first removed the dangerous man Finn Allen right after the latter slammed back-to-back boundaries. As Pakistan breathed a sigh of relief, Afridi removed Tim Seifert in the same over to put Pakistan on top. In an attempt to attack, Seifert ended up giving his wicket away, thus putting New Zealand on the back foot.

Nonetheless, the hosts banked on Will Young to salvage the damage. However, Shaheen Afridi was simply too good on his day. He bowled a short-pitched delivery, which angled in. Young tried to attack by nailing a pull shot towards mid-wicket. However, an alert Mohammad Nawaz was stationed at mid-wicket and took an excellent catch to end Young’s short stay at the crease.

Nawaz was brilliant in the field, considering the quality of Young’s shot. He went for the play at the right time to secure an extraordinary catch.

With that, New Zealand lost three wickets in the powerplay, and Afridi finished his initial three-over spell with three wickets while leaking a mere 23 runs.

Pakistan is desperate to secure a win in this series, and this has to be their best chance so far at achieving that goal.
