Virat Kohli’s much-anticipated return to Ranji Trophy after 12 years created significant buzz at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. While Kohli’s on-field performance was short-lived in the first innings, but his mentorship and leadership influence on Delhi captain Ayush Badoni became a major talking point on Day 3.  

Ahead of the match, reports suggested that Kohli was offered the captaincy. However, the star batter declined the role, instead urging young skipper Ayush Badoni to continue leading the side. 

Kohli Was Actively Assisting Badoni 

But however, On day 3, Kohli was actively seen helping Badoni with field placements and strategic inputs.  Virat's tactical advice and leadership presence was clearly evident as he was engaged in discussions with Badoni to adjusted the field. 

Kohli’s presence in domestic cricket created an electrifying atmosphere in Delhi which also led to multiple pitch invasions. On Day 3, three fans breached security and ran onto the field to meet their idol. Earlier on day 1, same incident was seen as a fan entered the field and touched Kohli's feet. 


Adding to the emotional weight of his return, Kohli was honored by the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) on Day 2 for his immense contributions and illustrious career. 

Virat Kohli's Poor Outing With The Bat

Virat Kohli's comeback innings did not go as planned, as Railways bowler Himanshu Sangwan dismissed him for just six runs with a dream delivery in the first innings. Despite Kohli’s low score, Delhi’s strong all-round performance ensured a resounding win by an innings and 19 runs. 

It is important to mention that the star batter will next be seen in the ODI series against England that is scheduled to start on February 6 at Nagpur.
