Five-time champions Australia had a disastrous start to their fifth World Cup match against the Netherlands, losing opener Mitchell Marsh early in the innings. However, the veteran duo of Steve Smith and David Warner steadied the ship for the Aussies, frustrating the Dutch with their sensational batting. Smith, in particular, played the aggressor's role to perfection, as he slammed plenty of glorious boundaries to get set in the middle.

The experienced campaigner took a particular liking for ace Dutch speedster Logan van Beek, smashing him for three gorgeous boundaries in the tenth over.

Earlier, it was Van Beek who drew the first blood for the Netherlands, dismissing the in-form Mitch Marsh.

However, Smith neutralised him with authority, hitting him for three successive fours through different parts of the ground.

After flicking the first two balls for fours, Smith pulled a short ball powerfully for another boundary through the square leg fence. However, Van Beek made a remarkable comeback, conceding a solitary run in the last three balls of the over.

Riding on the consolidating stand between Smith (37*) and Warner (26*), Australia have raced to 74 for one in 12.3 overs as of writing.
