Shamar Joseph couldn't have asked for a better start to his Test career as the West Indies pacer dismissed modern-day legend Steve Smith on his very first ball on Day 1 of the Adelaide Test against Australia.

Coming in first change for the 9th over of the Australian first-innings, the skiddy right-arm pacer got one to seam away from the great batter and had him nicking through to the slip cordon for just 12 on his first knock as a Test opener.

The speedster, who forced his way into reckoning after a terrific initiation to the challenging tour Down Under via the warm-up game against Cricket Australia XI, continued in his merry ways with the biggest scalp in Test cricket today.

Joseph gets Smith on Test debut

Smith would've been hoping for a substantial knock to start off the next phase of his Test career as Australia's unexpected new opening batter. However, Joseph rained on his parade with a beautiful outswinger which got Smith feeling for the ball an extra fraction of a second.

The ball took the outside edge, leaving Smith surprised by how late it moved away from him. With his head falling over slightly, the batter was clearly anticipating the one coming into his body from the West Indies pacer.

The catch was comfortably taken by the diving Justin Greaves at third slip as Australia lost their first wicket and West Indies earned the breakthrough they desperately wished for after managing just a paltry 188 all out.

For Smith, the dismissal continued a rather below-par phase with bat in hand. Something that would be a cause of worry for the team management and selectors, especially as he now pushes him up in the firing line against the new ball.
