Australia's swashbuckling right-handed batter Steve Smith, has been in sensational form recently. In the 30th match of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 between the Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Smith delivered yet another masterclass by smashing his third BBL century.

After the Perth Scorchers won the toss and opted to bowl first, the Sixers had a different script in mind. Smith, returning to the BBL after a gap, ensured it was a memorable comeback. Despite early setbacks, with Josh Philippe dismissed for just nine runs and Kurtis Patterson departing for 12, Smith held his ground. He kept the scoreboard ticking and took charge of the innings, punishing the bowlers with an array of boundaries and sixes, guiding the Sixers to a commanding position.

The memorable moment came in the 19th over of the Sixers’ innings when Jhye Richardson returned to bowl. On the fifth delivery, Richardson bowled a back-of-a-length ball outside off, and Steve Smith guided it to deep backward point for a single. With that run, Smith reached a magnificent century off just 58 balls, marking a stellar comeback to the BBL.

This century was Smith’s second BBL hundred at the SCG, further cementing his dominance at the venue. Leading from the front, Smith powered the Sixers to a commanding total of 222 runs. He remained unbeaten on 121 runs, laced with 10 fours and 7 sixes.

His effort was well-supported by captain Moises Henriques, who played a crucial knock of 46 runs to ensure the Sixers posted a challenging target for the Scorchers.
