Perth Scorchers' Cooper Connolly gave aa gift to Steve Smith in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) clash by dropping one of the easiest catches in cricket. Smith, was playing his first game of the season for the Sydney Sixers and decided to open the innings for his side.

The Australian batter, who had a terrific Border-Gavaskar series (BGT) vs India, came into this match with a lot of confidence and it was showcased in his batting as the elegant batter looked comfortable and scored a gritty fifty in the process.

However, en-route to his fifty, Smith was given a lifeline on his BBL return as Cooper Connolly dropped the easiest of the catches and was in shock after it. He bowled it full on the stumps as Smith failed to get the connection and chipped it straight back to Connolly, who got a hand on the ball, but spilled it as the Sixers superstar got a respite.

Smith reaches century on BBL return

Smith was at his imperial best in the clash against Scorchers and played some delightful strokes in the process. Once the batter crossed the 50-run mark, the tempo increased as he stepped foot on the accelerator and went berserk as he played with a strike-rate of more thn 170.

Smith was on 31 when Connolly dropped him and it could well turn out to be the costliest drop ever if the Sydney Sixers go onto win the contest, courtesy of a sublime knock from the champion Australian batter. Smith made the most of the opportunity and slammed a 58-ball ton to help Sixers post a competitive total.
