Shubman Gills's wicket vs AUS (Source:@LuckybhaiOFC/X.com)
Shubman Gill has been one of the most consistent batters in the 50-over format for India in the last few years, and is currently the number 1 ODI batter. He started off Champions Trophy 2025 with a century and looked good in all group-stage games. However, when India needed him most in the semifinal, the batter failed to make an impact and lost his wicket at a score of just 8.
Shubman Gill Falls Against Disciplined Ben Dwarshius
It was the final delivery of the 5th over and Ben Dwarshuis bowled a length delivery, outside off, angling across the right-hander. Shubman Gill pushed his bat towards the ball, but very tentatively and got an inside edge that shattered the stumps. It was a big, big wicket for Australia and a huge blow to India and was evident on the faces of fans inside the Dubai stadium.
Shubman Gill too was clearly disappointed with himself as he looked down in pain and stood still for a moment after the match. The wicket put India on the backfoot early and then Men in Blue also lost Rohit Sharma too, putting themselves in all sorts of trouble in their run-chase.
Earlier, Australia won the toss and decided to bat first and managed to score 264 with Steve Smith and Alex Carey hitting fifties. There were handy contributions from lower order batters as well and for India Shami was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets in his 10 overs.
