Rohit Sharma, the Hitman of world cricket has not been in great form in recent times, but those failures came in red-ball cricket and he was expected to make a strong comeback in ODIs. However, the right-handed opener has failed big time in the opening ODI in Nagpur as he could muster just two runs in six balls.

England scored 248 while batting first and Rohit opened the innings in the run-chase along with Yashasvi Jaiswal. The left-handed opener could not make an impact on debut, and departed on 15 off 22 balls

Rohit Fails As England Make Early Inroads

Rohit was expected to show his class then, but in the next over, on the second ball, Saqib Mahmood bowled a full delivery on leg. Rohit tried to clip it towards the leg side, but played it early and the ball lopped up in the air towards mid on where Liam Livingstone took an easy catch.

His wicket disappointed fans in Nagpur and also the Indian head coach who looked quite worried as the Indian skipper walked off the field. The twin-blows in the first powerplay has put India on backfoot and it once again raised concerns over Rohit's form.

The Champions Trophy is also around the corner and Rohit would be hoping to get back to his best as soon as possible. The onus is now on the middle order to bail India out of trouble, and it would be interesting to see how the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Gill and KL Rahul cope with the pressure of run-chase in Nagpur.
