Rohit Sharma scored a terrific century in the second ODI in Cuttack and a lot was expected of him in the ongoing game at the Narendra Modi Stadium. However, to everyone's surprise, the India captain departed for just 1 run as Phil Salt took a stunning catch to end his short stay at the crease.
The ball was doing enough in the early going and by the time Rohit could settle in, Mark Wood delivered a peach of a delivery to end his innings as the India opener edged one to the keeper as Wood got his prized wicket.
With the pitch helping the bowlers, Wood delivered a length ball and it nipped away sharply to take the outside edge of the bat. Rohit was squared by the ball as Phil Salt dived to his right and grabbed a stunning catch to end his knock. The India skipper was shell-shocked, and rightly so as he was undone by a brilliant delivery.
India make plethora of changes in the playing XI
With the series already in the bag, the Indian side decided to experiment as Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami and Varun Chakaravarthy were excluded from the team, and in their place, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar are drafted in the side.
Chakaravarthy was injured and India didn't want to take any risk and as a result, they decided to rest him up. At the moment, Virat Kohli has joined Shubman Gill and both the batters will try and steady the ship after the loss of Rohit.
