In the high-stakes final match of Major League Cricket (MLC) 2023 on July 31, Nicholas Pooran, the captain of MI New York, delivered a jaw-dropping match-winning performance, scoring a magnificent 137 runs off just 55 balls, making the 184-run chase against Seattle Orcas seem like a cakewalk.  

The Windies batter began his innings sensationally, blasting a lightning-fast 16-ball half-century, the fastest in the Major League Cricket tournament. He continued his aggressive onslaught against the Seattle bowlers, leaving no respite as MI New York chased the target in just 16 overs.

In addition to this, Pooran also claimed the title of the highest run-scorer of the tournament, amassing 388 runs in eight matches at an average of 64.47 and a staggering strike rate of 167.

Furthermore, he topped the charts as the player with the most sixes in the tournament, smashing 34 sixes in eight matches. He also finished as the player with the highest individual score of 137 runs, which he scored in this particular match only. 

Earlier in the match, Seattle Orcas, after putting to bat first, added 183 runs on the scoreboard for the loss of nine wickets in the allocated 20 overs. Quinton de Kock led the batting charge with 87 runs from 52 balls. Apart from him, Dwaine Pretorius played a quickfire knock of 21 runs from just seven balls. 

However, Pooran's extraordinary performance in beast mode overshadowed their efforts. In addition to Pooran's brilliance, Dewald Brevis and Tim David made valuable contributions with 20 and 10 runs, respectively. 

Notably, Nicolas Pooran has taken charge as the captain of MI New York in the past few games. With Kieron Pollard ruled out of the tournament due to injury, Pooran stepped up and led the team from the front as MI New York became the inaugural champions of Major League Cricket 2023.
