In a significant setback for Australia, veteran spinner Nathan Lyon is all set to miss the remainder of the ongoing Lord's Test against England due to a calf injury. Notably, Lyon, who limped off the field after sustaining a horrific injury to his right calf, was seen entering the venue with crutches this morning. Therefore, in all likelihood, he won't participate at least in this Test although an official word on his injury is yet to come.
Notably, Lyon pulled his calf muscle while attempting to save a boundary during the 37th over of England's first innings on day 2 of the Lord's Test. Following the incident, the bowler seemed to be in discomfort, as he was carried off the field by the Australian team physio.
After stumps on day 2, a Cricket Australia spokesperson stated that Lyon's participation in the match would be subjected to his fitness, which would be assessed overnight. As it seems, the Australian spin wizard has sustained a serious injury, which might rule him out of action for a considerable period.
Regarding the game, England had an outstanding start to their innings, as Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett stitched a 91-run stand for the first wicket. Although they lost ace batter Joe Root cheaply, young sensation Harry Brook and skipper Ben Stokes consolidated the English innings, powering them to 278 for four at stumps on day 2.
