Bangladesh is playing against South Africa in the first Test of the two-match series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur Dhaka. The home team is in deep trouble, having lost its first three wickets cheaply.

Bangladesh batted first after winning the toss

The decision by Najmul Hossain Shanto to bat first after winning the toss backfired as they lost three of their top four within the first six overs. Wiaan Mulder, with his exceptional performance, has managed to unsettle the Bangladesh batters by picking up all three wickets so far.

The team captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, walked out to bat when the team was two down for 13 runs in the fourth over of the innings. As the leader of the team and one of the key cogs of Bangladesh batting, the southpaw was expected to try to consolidate the innings for his team. However, the lack of game sense and responsibility was seen as he fell while playing a casual shot, putting his team in further trouble in the sixth over.

On the fourth delivery of the over, Mulder bowled a full delivery at the middle stump line that Shanto flicked for a boundary through mid-wicket. For the next delivery, Mulder came around the wicket and bowled a similar length at the off and middle stump region. Shanto, in his inertia from the previous shot, attempted it once again. But this time, all he managed was a leading edge to be taken by Keshav Maharaj at cover.
