Pakistan fast-bowler Khurram Shahzad spoiled Mitchell Marsh's perfect tale as he dismissed him 10 short of what would've been a memorable century on home ground in Perth on Day 2 of the ongoing first Test. 

The young right-arm seamer on his Test debut sent a peach of an incomer past the Australian allrounder's downswing for an attempted on-drive first ball after the lunch break on Friday (December 15). 


Marsh, who had gone to the lunch batting on 90* and looking ominous for a deserved Test century, failed to reach the three-figure mark after perhaps misjudging a late inswinger from Shahzad, who delivered the best ball of his maiden Test outing. 

The experienced batter confidently persisted with his downswing before being undone by how late the ball swung into him and crashed into the off and middle stump. The dismissal forced Marsh to take the long walk back when he might have been planning on celebrations for a memorable Test century in his den at the Perth Stadium. 

The wicket arrived on the first ball of the 111th over in Pakistan's first-innings bowling effort. Batting with the tail at eight down, Marsh was intent on scoring quickly and stretching the Australian innings further beyond a mammoth 476/8. 

In the process, he played a rather aggressive on-drive, which would've still been right and potentially fetched him four runs if not for a peach sent by Shahzad past his inside edge for a sensational dismissal.

The wicket denied Marsh a well-deserved hundred and led to a premature downfall for the Aussies at 487 all out, perhaps missing out on an opportunity to bat Pakistan out of the contest. 

Marsh, however, could take satisfaction in making another valiant contribution to his team's cause and elevating their total to such an enormous high. The cricketer continued his magnificent resurgent streak as Australia's preferred fast-bowling allrounder in Test cricket.
