Tim David in action [Twitter]
Swashbuckling Australian finisher Tim David showcased his hitting prowess for the second consecutive time in the inaugural Major League Cricket. Coming at number seven, the dynamic batter smacked a belligerent 21-ball 48*, helping MI New York breach the 150-run mark in the final over in their ongoing fixture against Los Angeles Knight Riders.
Batting first, MI, after a brisk start, lost their top four, Dewald Brevis, Shayan Jahangir, Monak Patel and Hammad Azam, in quick succession. Although Nicholas Pooran struck 38 runs, the chances of MI posting a defendable total seemed bleak after he got out in the 16th over. However, Tim David unleashed his vintage best on LAKR, as his quick-fire knock proved sufficient to power MINY to a healthy total.
After frustrating the Knight Riders with his glorious stroke play, the explosive batter hammered two massive consecutive sixes off Andre Russell in the last over to ensure a fitting finish for his side.
In response, LAKR had a disastrous start to their innings, losing Martin Guptill, Rilee Rossouw and Nitish Kumar with just three runs on the board. They were so miserable with the bat that former India u-19 captain Unmukt Chand was their solitary batter to breach the two-figure mark. As a result of such an epic collapse, the Knight Riders were bowled out for a paltry 50, losing the game by a whopping 105-run margin.
