The third season of the MLC is intensifying as the battle for the top four spots heats up. The inaugural champions are struggling to find their rhythm in the tournament, having lost four out of their five games so far.

In their latest encounter against the San Francisco Unicorns, the Nicholas Pooran-led side faced a massive defeat by 47 runs while chasing a target of 247 runs. A heavy batting unit comprised of the likes of Quinton de Kock, Nicholas Pooran and Kieron Pollard has failed to turn up in the tournament so far, and the story was the same during their latest outing.

Short And McGurk Destroy The MI Bowling

Notably, ahead of the game, Nicholas Pooran won the toss and asked the Unicorns to bat first. Powered by the destructive batting of Matt Short (91 off 43 balls) and Jake Fraser-McGurk (64 off 26 balls), the Unicorns posted a massive total of 246 runs in their 20 overs.

In the chase, the MI New York made a brilliant start as Monank Patel played a flamboyant knock of 60 runs in 33 deliveries. However, after the dismissal of Patel, Pooran and de Kock struggled to keep the momentum going and fell away from the chase.

The Unicorns' bowlers executed their plans brilliantly and took the match out of the jaws of the MI. The final nail in the coffin was put by Romario Shepherd with a twin wicket over.

Bracewell's Brain Fade In A Pressure Chase

One of these wickets was that of Michael Bracewell. Notably, the Kiwi all-rounder heaved across a good length delivery at the stumps and completely missed. The ball clipped the stumps and ended his stay in the middle.

However, the batter had no idea that he had been cleaned up. He thought that he had been adjudged leg before the wicket and hence was looking to refer the decision. But the bowler, Shepherd, pointed at the stumps and brought to his notice the fact that the bails had been dislodged, and he had to back. The incident can be witnessed in a video posted by MLC on their official X handle.

At the end of their 20 overs, the MI managed to post 199 runs on the board and fell short by 48 runs. Notably, this was Kieron Pollard's 700th game, and the legend would have been disappointed to face the L in his milestone game.
