The St Kitts and Nevis Patriots are playing against the St. Lucia Kings in the 14th match of the CPL 2024. This game is being played at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St. Lucia.
The St. Lucia Kings have won two of their four games in the tournament. They are currently stationed at the fifth spot in the six-team points table. The Faf du Plessis-led side is desperately looking for a win in this game to improve their position in the points table and climb up the points table.
The journey of the teams so far
The St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots started their campaign with a win against the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons. However, their journey has fallen apart since then. The Patriots have lost five games on the bounce and are currently lingering at the bottom of the table. The Andre Fletcher-led side needs a win to stay alive in the tournament.
Faf du Plessis, the captain of the St Lucia Kings, won the toss ahead of the game and put the Patriots to bat. The Patriots' two openers, Andre Fletcher and Evin Lewis, made a solid start for their team. The duo stitched together a partnership of 51 runs and were going at a good rate.
However, at the beginning of the seventh over, Shadrack Descarte picked up Evin Lewis, bringing Kyle Mayers into the crease. Mayers has been in decent touch with the bat in the tournament, and it was evident from the shots he played in the middle.
Kyle Mayers could not capitalise on a promising start
Kyle Mayers hit his first boundary on the second delivery of the ninth over against Descarte. A massive maximum on the fifth delivery of the same over soon followed. Descarte bowled a short delivery at the leg stump line to Mayers. The southpaw spotted the line and length early and rocked to his back foot to pull the ball away over the square leg fence for a maximum.
Mayers was starting to look dangerous in the middle, and his power-hitting could have taken the game away from the Patriots. However, Roston Chase did not allow Mayers to unfurl his fury in this game, as the all-rounder accounted for the dangerous left-handed batter on the first ball of the next over.
Notably, Kyle Mayers was a part of the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL for the last couple of seasons. However, he was not given too many chances in the latest edition of the tournament.
