In the ongoing BBL match between Sydney Thunder and Brisbane Heat at the Gabba, the hosts won the toss and opted to field first. The Thunder, batting first, lost an early wicket, but David Warner and Mathew Gilkes stitched a 48-run stand for the 2nd wicket.

After the 2nd wicket fell, the Thunder kept on losing wickets at regular intervals, but the players played their cameos and stole the limelight. Talking about stealing the limelight, former KKR star and Gujarat Titans' recent signing Sherfane Rutherford hogged the spotlight after he whacked KKR's latest 2.80 crore buy, Spencer Johnson.

On the 3rd ball of the 10th over, Johnson bowled a short-pitched delivery, but Rutherford was ready for it and played a brilliant pull-like shot for a six. Watch the maximum here.

Rutherford Shines For Thunder Against Scorchers

In the recently concluded match against Perth Scorchers, Rutherford played a valuable 39 (19), which featured five fours and a solitary six. It was a game that was in Scorchers' hands, but Rutherford smashed 17 runs off the last over to seal the win for his side.

It was a magical win as several pundits and fans had ruled Thunder to be out of the match, but he pulled off a miraculous win, following which Thunder captain David Warner was elated and broke into wild celebrations.

It is worth noting that Rutherford was part of KKR's set-up for 2024, but was released ahead of IPL 2025 mega-auction. Further, Gujarat Titans went onto buy the West Indies star for 2.6 crores.
