The St. Lucia Kings face off against the Trinbago Knight Riders in the  26th match of the CPL 2024. The two teams locked horns at the Biran Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad.

Charles and du Plessis provide a strong foundation for the Kings

Kieron Pollard, the skipper of the Knight Riders, won the toss and put the Kings to bat. The Kings made a great start to their innings, as Faf du Plessis and Johnson Charles stitched a 145-run partnership for the first wicket.

The stage was set for the Kings to reach a formidable total. Even though barring Tim Sefiert (30 off 17), the other batters in the middle order did not make much of a contribution, the Kings were able to post 218/6 at the end of their 20 overs.

Amidst the Kings' run-fest, the TKR skipper, Kieron Pollard, emerged as the shining star in the bowling department. His four-wicket haul, including the crucial dismissals of Faf du Plessis, David Wiese, Roston Chase, and Shadrack Descartes, played a significant role in restricting the Kings to a manageable total.

Kieron Pollard played a big role in keeping the Kings to a manageable total

It was Pollard's wickets towards the end of the innings that restricted the Kings to below 230; otherwise, they could have well gone past that mark. While Pollard's bowling was a point of discussion among the fans, his unique celebration after that caught the fans' eyes. Pollard was seen gesturing like a shooter to celebrate his wickets.

Even though the Knight Riders were able to restrict the Kings to a chasable score, they failed to show the resilience to achieve it. Barring Jason Roy (41 off 29), none of the important batters stood up or showed any resilience. As a result, the Knights were bundled out for 138 in the 18th overs, and they lost the match by 80 runs.

St. Lucia Kings solidify their claim in the top two spots of the points table

With this victory, the St. Lucia Kings have solidified their position at the top of the table. In contrast, the Trinbago Knight Riders now find themselves in a precarious position, needing to win both of their remaining games and rely on other match results to secure a top-two finish in the league stage.
