Pakistan would be thanking the gods of cricket and Salman Ali Agha for finally doing the seemingly impossible: sending the dangerous-looking Joe Root back to the pavilion and breaking the 454-run partnership between him and Harry Brook in the ongoing first Test between England and Pakistan in Multan.
It was a treat to the eyes to witness Joe Root slam a half-century, then his 35th Test ton and now convert it into a delightful double century. Root looked disappointed as he would have also hoped to breach the 300-run mark. But, Agha Salman's entry to the attack spilled water on his dreams.
During his almost 2-day stint at the crease, Joe Root scored a massive 262 runs off 375 balls, including 17 eye-catching boundaries. As he returned to the dugout, the Pakistani players approached him and shook hands to appreciate him for this scintillating knock.
Agha Strikes To Remove Root
On the first ball of the 137th over, Salman unleashed an over the wicket gentle off break coming on the stumps, Root stayed back and looked to work it across the line, however unfortunately he missed on the inside edge and got pinged on the pads right in front of the stumps. The opposition made a massive roaring appeal and umpire Kumar Dharmasena does not hold back as he raised in finger, showcasing that it indeed was a wicket.
Root did not let his wicket deter his celebration, as he rose his bat on the way to the dressing room and got a massive reception after a career-best knock.
Joe Root's Remarkable Achievement
During his remarkable innings in the Multan Test, Joe Root achieved a significant milestone by becoming only the third batter, alongside Virender Sehwag and Mahela Jayawardene, to score double centuries in India, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan. This impressive feat highlights Root's adaptability and skill across diverse cricketing conditions in the subcontinent.
Harry Brook Slams A Triple Ton
Meanwhile, at the time of writing, Harry Brook has continue to impress with his brilliance as he slammed a triple century. With this breathtaking knock, he becomes the only sixth English batter to score a triple century in Test cricket. England are 779/5, leading by 223 runs.
