Gujarat Titans pulled off a last-ball thriller against Mumbai Indians in match 56 of the IPL 2025 season at the Wankhede Stadium. Overcoming rains, a hostile crowd and a rampant Mumbai Indians unit, the Titans huffed and puffed their way to a chaotic win, barely made possible by an easy runout opportunity squandered away from home skipper, Hardik Pandya.

Gujarat Titans clinch last-ball drama

Gujarat Titans, chasing 156 for a win, were left to chase 147 runs from 19 overs after a couple of rain delays at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday, May 6. Resuming the innings at 132-6 from 18 overs, Rahul Tewatia and Gerald Coetzee clubbed sizzling cameos off a struggling Deepak Chahar.

However, Coetzee’s dismissal to Chahar off the penultimate ball brought down Gujarat Titans’ equation to one run from the final ball of the game. Arshad Khan, batting at number nine, arrived to the crease and drilled Chahar back towards Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya at mid-off.

Pandya, in sight of all three stumps, had a shy only to miss his opportunity under pressure. Television replays indicated that any hit would have gotten Arshad out by a couple of yards from the crease. Nonetheless, both Arshad and Rahul Tewatia completed the run to seal a thrilling victory for the Gujarat Titans.

Earlier in the match, Mumbai Indians formed 155-8 from 20 overs, courtesy of a splendid half-century from Will Jacks and crucial contributions from Suryakumar Yadav and Corbin Bosch. For the Titans, spinners Sai Kishore and Rashid Khan picked up three wickets between them after the opening onslaught from fast bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Arshad Khan.

While Gujarat Titans were cruising at 113-2 at one stage, Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult tilted the tide back in Mumbai Indians’ favor, only for a topsy-turvy final over to re-write the game’s fate.
