Azam Khan had a terrible time in 10th match of CPL 2024 [X]
The Guyana Amazon Warriors and the St. Lucia Kings faced off in the 10th match of the CPL 2024 at the Daren Sammy Stadium in Gros Islet, St. Lucia. It turned into a rather one sided affair as the Warriors decimated the Kings with the ball and then chased down a below par total with about half of their innings remaining.
During the match, the Pakistani player Azam Khan had a distressing day on the field, a performance that left fans and cricket followers disappointed. The cricketer, who has been a subject of discussion due to his fitness issues, further fueled the fire during the Warriors vs Kings game with a lacklustre effort during fielding and a poor display with the bat.
The Warriors put in a brilliant display with the ball, bundled out the Kings for just 100 runs in 14.3 overs. However, Azam Khan was seen messing up a run-out chance during this. The incident occurred during an Imran Tahir over.
Azam Khan's forgettable day
The former South African international bowled a full delivery at the middle and leg stump to Matthew Forde. The batter turned the ball towards square leg and set off for a single. A mix-up between Forde and Seifert resulted in a clear run-out chance. The fielder collected the ball in time and threw the ball to Azam Khan. However, Khan crashed onto the stumps before collecting the ball and squandered the effort of the fielder.
After restricting the Kings to a meagre total, the Warriors came out with a clear intent to chase down the target quickly. Rahmanullah Gurbaz, in a destructive mood, played a blistering 47 off 19 deliveries, effectively ending the game as a competition. The Warriors' aggressive batting approach, with all the batters aiming to finish the chase quickly, resulted in a couple of wickets and brought Azam Khan to the middle.
At the stage at which Khan walked out, he was expected to guide his team to a win without further damage. However, Azam Khan fell on the fourth delivery of his innings trying to uppercut Alzarri Joseph over third man. This four-ball duck meant that Khan's poor run with the bat in the tournament continued. So far in CPL 2024, Azam Khan has scored 11 runs in three innings at a strike rate of 64.70.
Returning to the match, the Warriors chased down their target, losing four wickets with 60 balls remaining.
