Jonny Bairstow’s bizarre brain-fade moment from Day 5 of the second Ashes 2023 Test has created much ruckus within the cricketing fraternity.

The middle-order English batter, while batting at 10, walked out his crease after ducking to a short delivery from Cameron Green. Much to Bairstow’s disbelief, Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey took advantage of the situation by hitting the stumps.

The Englishmen was adjudged ‘stumped’ and had to make his way back to the pavilion, leaving behind his skipper Ben Stokes alone with the tail when his side required another 178 runs for an improbable victory.

While the incident left a legion of English supporters stunned, former England’s limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan reaction to the same was as priceless as it can get.

Eoin Morgan left speechless at the commentary box

At the time of the bizarre dismissal, Eoin Morgan was at the Sky Sports commentary box alongside former Australian batsman Mark Taylor.

After Bairstow ducked to Green only to be subsequently stumped by the Australian keeper, Morgan’s face visibly turned to much disbelief while a jubilant Taylor kept narrating the live proceedings beside him.

Bairstow’s dismissal triggered captain Stokes to launch a brutal six-hitting assault over the Australian pace attack. The left-hander whacked nine boundaries and nine maximums and formed a 108-run defiant stand with tail-ender Stuart Broad.

However, he miscued one to Josh Hazlewood upon taking his side within 70 runs from their target. The tail was left with much to do and the hosts were eventually dusted out for 327.

Australia fittingly won the Lord’s Test by 43 runs and went 2-0 up in the five-match series.

The two sides will now collide in the third Ashes 2023 Test at Leeds’ Headingley. The match is scheduled to commence from July 6.
