In a massive moment during the ILT20 2025 contest between MI Emirates and Desert Vipers, Kieron Pollard was involved in a run out that got his partner Tom Banton dismissed. Wanindu Hasarange nailed a direct hit to cause a double blow for Emirates.

MI Emirates were batting first against Desert Vipers. Openers Kusal Perera and Muhammad Waseem added 48 runs for the opening partnership. Just when it was time for the Emirates to accelerate things and capitalise on the momentum, a dual wicket over led to a crucial fallout.

Lockie Ferguson first dismissed Nicholas Pooran. The latter went for a big flick but holed out to the fielder at deep square leg.

Hasaranga's big throw leaves Banton short of his crease

On the very next delivery, Ferguson delivered a fullish ball outside the off stump to Pollard. The West Indian stalwart attempted a chip shot that didn’t have enough power or placement, sending the ball low back toward Ferguson. The bowler, in his follow-through, stretched out his right hand but failed to grab the ball cleanly.

While the fumble might have given the batters a moment’s hope, Hasaranga was quick to react. The Sri Lankan, fielding at cover, sprinted in, picked up the ball cleanly, and threw it at the keeper’s end with precision. It struck the stumps straight, so an appeal from the fielding side followed.

The TV umpire was called to confirm the dismissal. Replays on the big screen showed that Tom Banton, Pollard's non-striker, was well short of his crease. The direct hit by Hasaranga had sealed the fate of the batter, leaving the MI Emirates four wickets down in quick succession.

Pollard finished with 36 off 23 balls before Romario Shepherd added a quick 16 off 8 balls. Eventually, MI Emirates finished with a total of 159 runs at the loss of six wickets by the end of the first inning.
