Dinesh Karthik and Mahipal Lomror humbled Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)’s high-flying spinner Mayank Markande with a 25-run over amidst their monumental run-chase task in match number 30 of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) season.

Forming forces at 122-5 following the sudden dismissals of skipper Faf du Plessis and Saurav Chauhan, the two cricketers took a couple of overs to settle before targeting Markande and Jaydev Unadkat in succession.

Chasing 288 for an improbable victory, RCB openers Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli shared 80 runs in just six overs before the latter was cleaned up by SRH leg-spinner Mayank Markande. Kohli’s dismissal triggered a slew of wickets for RCB, as they slumped from 80-0 to 122-5 in a space of just four overs.

Markande also accounted for Rajat Patidar to play his part in RCB’s colossal top-order collapse at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

As it turned out, the high-flying spinner was soon humbled by RCB middle-order batters Dinesh Karthik and Mahipal Lomror.

While Lomror launched Markande for successive sixes upfront in the 13th over of the RCB innings, Karthik soared behind square to accumulate 25 runs of the over.

Karthik and Lomror also dished out heavy punishment on Jaydev Unadkat the following over with another 21 runs as RCB blazed their way to 181-5 at the end of 14 overs.

RCB eventually concluded their innings at 262-7 to fall 25 runs short of SRH’s record 287-run total.

Earlier in the match, the ‘Orange Army’ charted 287-3 off the back of a Travis Head century, a turbulent Heinrich Klaasen half-century, and dazzling 30s from Aiden Markram and Abdul Samad.
